What happened?

UL Solutions issued a public notice regarding certain AA Fire Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishers carrying unauthorized UL Certification Marks.

According to the notice, the affected fire extinguishers have not been evaluated by UL Solutions against the appropriate safety standards. This means it is not known whether these extinguishers meet the required safety performance expectations.

UL Solutions also recommended that the affected extinguishers be removed from service immediately. The products were found in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, but the notice states that they may be available in other areas.

Falcon Power takeaway

In fire safety projects, a mark printed on a product should never be accepted by appearance alone. Certification must be supported by valid documents, correct model details, and a clear supplier record.

Why this matters for projects

Fire extinguishers are emergency-use products. They may sit unused for a long time, but when a fire starts, they must work correctly and safely. Any uncertainty around certification, filling, pressure rating, labeling, or product origin can create a serious project risk.

For contractors, consultants, procurement teams, and facility owners, this notice is a reminder that product compliance is not only about price or product photos. It also depends on documentation, source verification, and matching the exact product with the approved project requirement.

What should clients check?

  • Request product data sheets and certification documents before approval.
  • Check that the certification mark matches the exact product and model.
  • Review the product label, capacity, fire rating, pressure details, and intended use.
  • Confirm that the supplier can provide clear product traceability.
  • Avoid accepting fire extinguishers based only on photos, verbal claims, or low price.
  • Make sure the extinguisher type matches the facility risk and project specification.

What this means for fire extinguisher procurement

A fire extinguisher may look simple, but the details matter. The type of extinguisher, capacity, rating, pressure, extinguishing agent, approval documents, and maintenance requirements all affect whether the product is suitable for the project.

This is especially important in commercial buildings, warehouses, factories, hotels, schools, healthcare facilities, malls, and public buildings where product approval and safety records may be reviewed during handover or inspection.
