Before handover, the project team should walk the route, not just review the product list. The review should follow the path a visitor would take from inside the building to a safe exit.

To receive a useful quotation, the supplier should understand the building layout and the purpose of the system. A simple quantity request may not be enough.
- Project type: mall, school, office, warehouse, hotel, restaurant, hospital, residential building, or industrial facility.
- Floor plans or basic layout showing corridors, exits, stairs, and key rooms.
- Whether the requirement is for exit signs, emergency lights, or both.
- Mounting type: wall, ceiling, suspended, recessed, or surface mounted.
- Power and backup requirements if already specified by the consultant.
- Indoor or outdoor installation areas.
- Required quantity, delivery time, and any approval or catalogue requirement.
